Cam and Cute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

Cam is a 7 year old girl who went through a tough time dealing with cancer, below is a statement from her mom about Cams story and diagnosis:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At this time a year and a half ago, we had a sassy, spunky, very opinionated 5 year old. We became concerned when Camryn started complaining of feeling tired, and for a 5 year old that’s pretty normal, so we felt a little silly when we finally decided to bring her to the paediatrician - because what little person isn’t tired?! But as parents we knew that something felt different for our child. We requested blood work be done and at the time, our worst thoughts were that maybe she had mono or even lyme disease - so we were shocked when 24 hours later the paediatrician was calling us telling us to get Cam to Yale Children’s hospital for a blood transfusion. Cam and I were in the hospital for 8 days when she was finally diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Hers was caught so early that it was still only present in her bone marrow, so she began treatment immediately.

Now over a year later, Camryn is responding to treatment very well. She is currently in what they call the maintenance phase of her treatment which means she heads to Yale once a month to have her numbers checked and receives her daily dose of chemotherapy orally with us at home. She will continue treatment until July 2025 at which point we hope to be celebrating the end of a very long and emotional cancer journey.

Thank you so much for the joy you brought to my children with your gift this weekend. It gave them something to do together and a much needed distraction during a long and trying weekend. We hope you can continue this amazing work and we are happy to help however we can.

I was lucky enough to meet Cam at her house in her playhouse that Make-A-Wish donated to her as her wish. I had a great time meeting her and her family; we were able to snap some picture that can be seen below.
