Cayden and Stage 3 osteosarcoma

Meet Cayden, 12-year-old boy. We had a great time meeting him and his mom. Cayden is an amazingly strong kid who is undergoing treatment for osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer. He is responding well to the treatment. We hope this Lego set gives him some comfort during his next chemo treatment.

Here is Cayden's story, shared by his mom

******************************

Cayden was an active 11yo when he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma this past April. He liked to play with his dogs outside, go to trampoline parks, and go swimming. He took a ninja warrior class and started to have knee pain, which we thought was from over extending. We took him to a PT who thought he had an MCL strain. But the swelling increased and the pain wasn’t going away.

We were able to get him into see a pediatric orthopedist and they took an xray. Before the doctor had even come into the room, he’d already called an orthopedic surgeon who specialized in oncology at Yale and we were in to see him the next day. Diagnosis and treatment started very quickly. He’s now been through major surgery to remove the tumor and is currently doing his 5th round of chemo. He has one more round after this and should be done with chemo and cancer free in December! He’s now 12yo and really looking forward to being able to walk without crutches soon.

Cayden has always loved building with Legos. But they have been a major source of entertainment in the hospital when he’s be connected to an IV for days on end not always feeling well enough to get out of bed. We truly thank Blocks of Hope and Shaurya for this amazing gift!
